Backcountry Climb Pro

Like its sibling, the Classic Backcountry Splitboard , the new Backcountry Climb Pro has a number of improvements over its predecessor.

The new Backcountry is 10% lighter than its predecessor, thanks to the paulownia wood used in the construction of its core, which together with poplar and bamboo gives it the same bending and twisting behavior as its predecessor but is 10% lighter.

Two holes have also been added at the nose for attaching skins, eliminating the need for traditional buckles. This allows us to assemble the splitboard for downhill riding without removing the climbing skins, preventing the board from accidentally falling down the mountain. Once the splitboard is assembled, we simply remove the skins to begin our descent.

The Backcountry Climb Pro splitboard (like the Nimbus Splitboard and Pro Carbon) is a splitboard with a V-shaped nose and tail. This new shape gives it a more ski-like form when the board is split for uphill riding, with the clips positioned slightly further from the nose and tail. This new shape, more similar to a conventional ski, avoids sharp edges and moves them further away from the inside edge.

This, along with the new, more rearward position of the clips towards the center of the board, allows you to ascend without inverting the two halves of the board, preventing angled edges and clips from colliding while skinning. And what are the benefits of not inverting the two halves of the board? Skinning with the straight edges facing inwards is safer and more efficient, as it reduces the “sideline depth” in the valley waist (the half of the splitboard closest to the valley diagonally) to zero, causing the waist to flex less when stepped on and providing better grip on hard snow.

But why did we move the straight edge to the valley floor?

The valley ski is the hardest for us to grip because it is further away from our point of balance, therefore we move the curved edge to the mountain ski (closer to our point of balance) and move the straight ski to the valley ski to compensate for it being further from our point of balance.

Furthermore, we must remember that this improved grip on the valley ski makes the “turn” safer and more efficient, where the support is fully on the valley ski. Very important: It is recommended to skin without inverting the two halves once you have experience skinning and are already doing it with both skis parallel in a more instinctive way. It is not advisable not to invert them when following a skier’s tracks, as the narrower tracks could make it easier for the two halves to collide.

Traditional and directional camber profile skis, designed to deliver maximum performance on the ascent and optimal behavior on the descent in the wide range of snow types found in our mountains.

Our splitboards have a large contact surface with the snow, which will undoubtedly give us more grip when climbing the mountain.

Presented as a very versatile board that makes us enjoy both hard days, being a reactive board, and deep snow days thanks to its rocker, shape and height of the nose, a high-performance sintered black base that gives us extra speed, which together with its setback (rear position) will help us with floatation in deep snow.

Its Flex 8 provides optimal stiffness for Big Mountain riders.

Do we have any new things planned for this season?

Yes, as a new feature this season we have reduced the height or curvature of the tail of our splitboard, this gives it a greater length of edge in turns, we enter the turn earlier and exit later so we are in the turn longer, this allows us greater control and agility in turns.

Splitboard received the Editor’s Choice award as the splitboard tested by splitboarding.eu, the interactive magazine specializing in splitboards. In addition to this recognition, it achieved the highest WP-Score (price/weight ratio) of all the selected splitboards.
